About the Project

90% of those suffering from visual impairment live in developing countries. 200 million people need access to eye care in India, but less than 10% have been reached. 80% of all visual impairment can be avoided or cured. There is a clear gap between those who have treatable eye diseases and their access to care.

The Aravind Eye Care System was founded 30 years ago in the state of Tamilnadu in an attempt to make eye care more accessible. Today, doctors at Aravind see over 6,000 patients per day and perform over 300,000 surgeries per year.

Our team will explore potential areas of innovation within the treatment of major disease states during our three weeks at Aravind. We are extremely humbled and excited to have this unique opportunity and can’t wait to keep our EYES out for good needs!
